We sent this email on the following dates to students who need to provide their Social Security number (SSN) to College Assist in order to receive COF funds for Summer 2026:

Dear [first],

Your College Opportunity Fund (COF) stipend can't be applied to your bill because you didn't include your Social Security number (SSN) in your COF application.

COF was created by the Colorado Legislature to pay a portion of total in-state tuition for eligible undergrads. There's no limit to the number of students who receive it, and you never have to pay it back.

To Correct Your Record

To resolve this error, follow our step-by-step instructions to update your record by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2026.

Do not email anything containing your SSN. Doing so could put you at high risk for identity theft.

We'll securely send your information to College Assist. Once the error is resolved, follow our instructions to authorize COF by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2026.

Our records indicate that although you graduated from ��Ƶ in May, you're registered for one or more Summer or Fall 2026 classes in the same degree program.

Students who've graduated from a degree program aren't allowed to take additional courses in that program; therefore, we've placed you in a nondegree program for spring semester. You're still enrolled in your classes.

Note: If you received an undergraduate degree but are still completing requirements for an additional major, please contact your advisor.

Enrollment changes like this one may result in an adjustment to your bill and financial aid package. Check your tuition and fee balance in Buff Portal and visit the Continuing Education website or meet with an advisor to learn more about nondegree tuition and fees.

According to our records, you’re currently classified as a nonresident (out-of-state) for tuition purposes. As a graduate or law student, you may be eligible to petition for a change to resident (in-state) tuition classification for Summer 2027 if you moved to Colorado on or before May 2, 2026,and you complete the required steps outlined below.

Domicile refers to your true, fixed and permanent home. Establishing domicile requires:

Physical presence (living in Colorado)
Severing legal ties to your previous state
Establishing legal ties to Colorado in a timely manner after your move

Your Next Steps to Qualify for Summer 2027

If you moved to Colorado on or before May 2, 2026, and you plan to petition for in-state tuition for Summer 2027:

Establish Legal Ties to Colorado as Soon as Possible Obtain a Colorado driver’s license or state ID within 120 days of moving.
Change your voter registration to Colorado if you are a registered voter.
Register your vehicle in Colorado within 180 days of moving.
File income taxes as a Colorado resident.
We strongly encourage you to review our Adult Residency Petition Information, graduate student video and graduate student handout for full requirements. It is your responsibility to ensure all criteria are met.
Submit Your Petition
Submit your completed Adult Residency Petition between March 1, 2027 and April 30, 2027 (5 p.m.). Please mark this final deadline on your calendar.
Failure to meet required steps or deadlines will result in denial of your petition, and you will continue to be assessed out-of-state tuition. Maintaining legal ties to another state will also result in denial.

If you moved after May 2, 2026, you may be eligible to petition for a change to resident classification for Fall 2027 or another future term. See our website for dates and deadlines related to other upcoming terms.

Important Considerations

International students with student visas (e.g., F-1, F-2, H-3, J-1, M-1, M-2) generally do not qualify for in-state tuition and should contact our office before submitting a petition.
WRGP participants should not change domicile or submit a petition. This program already provides reduced tuition for eligible students in select programs.

Thinking about taking classes this summer? Summer Session at ��Ƶ has hundreds of classes available to help you earn credit toward your degree. Summer classes allow you to shorten your time to graduation and let you focus on one or two classes at a time.

Summer Session courses are offered during multiple sessions that fit your schedule and, if your summer unexpectedly frees up, registration for most sessions remains open through at least the second day of the session (view session calendars).

This summer, classes are available in multiple instruction modes: in-person, online, remote or hybrid. You can check your class's instruction mode using the summer class schedule.

According to our records, you've enrolled to retake the same class or a direct equivalent of [Class] in Summer 2026. We've evaluated that this class is eligible for grade replacement.

Grade replacement is applied automatically at the end of each term for eligible courses and students. We’ll send you another email once grade replacement has been applied to your record (after grades have posted at the end of the semester).

Remember, the grade you earned in the most recent prior attempt will still appear on your transcript, but it will be replaced in your cumulative GPA and credit totals by the grade from your latest attempt as long as that grade is the same or better.

Repeating a Course Without Grade Replacement

If the course becomes ineligible for grade replacement, grade replacement won’t be applied and the grades from both attempts will be included in your cumulative and major GPAs, credit totals and academic standing. For example, if a lower grade is earned in the latest attempt, or if you withdraw or drop the class. Learn more about the eligibility requirements for grade replacement.

You may also repeat a course without grade replacement by submitting an opt-out request from your Colorado email to registrar@colorado.edu by the last day of the semester. Opting out of grade replacement is irreversible. Please meet with your advisor to discuss how opting out of grade replacement will impact your GPA and academic standing.

Our records indicate that you expected to complete the undergraduate requirements for your Bachelor's–Accelerated Master's (BAM) program in Summer 2026.

If this is still when you plan to graduate with your bachelor's degree, complete the steps below to continue with your master's degree. These steps need to be completed before the end of February so you're able to enroll in Summer 2026 classes when registration opens the first week of March.

Apply to graduate with your bachelor's degree.
Submit a master's continuation form.
Submit a BAM supplement form to identify which courses you're double counting and which should apply to your master's degree.

If your expected graduation term has changed, please complete a BAM program change form so we can update your records. If you're completing your bachelor's degree this semester, you'll need to complete the steps above by Sunday, March 1.

Students are considered for different types and amounts of financial aid when they become graduates students. If you're receiving financial aid, please note that your aid will be adjusted automatically when your student status changes.

Summer and Fall 2026 Advising Hold Timeline

Friday, Jan. 9: The Systems & Data Services team contacted departments with existing hold information.
Thursday, Jan. 22:
- Deadline for departments with existing holds to submit additions, changes or deletions.
- Deadline for departments to request a new advising hold (email your request to regsystemsdata@colorado.edu).
Tuesday, Jan. 27: Deadline for departments to submit SID lists for batch processing (if applicable).
Thursday, Jan. 29: The Systems & Data Services team begins setting advising holds and will complete this process no later than Feb. 17 for Summer and March 3 for Fall.
Friday, Feb. 13 at noon: Final advising hold deadline for Summer 2026.
Wednesday, Feb. 18: Assigned enrollment dates for Summer 2026 are visible to students in Buff Portal. No new advising holds will be assigned for Summer 2026.
Friday, Feb. 27 at noon: Final advising hold deadline for Fall 2026.
Wednesday, March 4: Assigned enrollment dates for Fall 2026 are visible to students in Buff Portal. No new advising holds will be assigned for Fall 2026.

We will begin setting Summer and Fall 2026 advising holds (a.k.a., advising service indicators) for continuing students on Thursday, Jan. 29. Once set, these holds will prevent students in those programs from registering until they've met with their academic advisor.

If your department would like to discuss creating a new advising hold for Summer or Fall 2026, email the Systems & Data Services team with the details of your request by Thursday, Jan. 22.

Review Your Holds

If your department currently uses advising holds, you should have received an email from the Systems & Data Services team to confirm the population and text of your hold. Reply with any necessary changes, additions or deletions by Thursday, Jan. 22.

If your department's advising holds are assigned using an SID list, submit your list by noon on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Lists submitted after that date will be processed in the order in which they're received, allowing at least two business days for processing.

Notify Your Students

To support student success, academic departments are responsible for notifying their students when an advising hold is placed and for providing a clear explanation of the steps the student must take to have it released.

If you wish to request an e-memo, student communications are distributed by Strategic Relations & Communications using ��Ƶ Today and associated campus communication tools. Visit the ��Ƶ Today website to view the different tools (e.g., ��Ƶ Today stories and administrative e-memos) and submit your message for campus audiences.

Release Holds Promptly

Advising holds now include a timeline for release (e.g., "After you've met with your advisor, your hold will be removed within three business days"). Please remove the advising hold as soon as you can after the student has received advising to ensure compliance with this timeline.
