ME-EM on Coursera Curriculum

The ME-EM听is an online master's degree designed to prepare the next generation of听working professionals for career advancement in leadership and management in the engineering and technical sectors.

Academic Overview

Core curriculum addresses the business basics of communication; project management; finance and accounting; and leadership.
This degree is designed for professionals who are:

  • Junior to mid-level managers who are looking to gain business and management skills to advance their careers
  • Looking for flexible and convenient learning opportunities that fit into their busy professional and personal lives
  • Looking for practical skills that they can apply immediately
  • Looking for course content and materials designed specifically for engineering and technical environments

Coursework

The ME-EM requires a minimum of 30 credit hours of approved, degree-eligible graduate-level coursework and a minimum cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0. Courses in which grades of C+ or below are received may not be applied toward the degree but will count toward the cumulative GPA (no more than three credits of C+ can be applied toward degree program requirements).

You must complete 12 credits of core coursework in finance, project management, authentic leadership, and communication听and 18 credits of elective coursework across a variety of topic areas, including technology entrepreneurship, product development, ethical decision-making, and more.

All EMEA courses on Coursera count towards the ME-EM. The curriculum also permits additional elective courses. Up to 9 credits of courses offered by 无码视频's Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (MS-ECE) on Coursera, Master of Science in Computer Science (MS-CS) on Coursera, Master of Science in Data Science (MS-DS) on Coursera, and Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (MS-AI) on Coursera may be applied as elective credits toward the ME-EM degree. Courses must be graduate-level and meet all applicable academic standards. Courses听may not be double-counted toward two credentials of the same level. Only courses offered through Coursera may be used.

All courses must be enrolled in and tuition paid through Buff Portal to count toward your ME-EM degree. Non-credit or open-content courses are not eligible for degree credit. New learners must start here, and complete steps 1-7.

Engineering Management Program Course Refresh

The EMP course refresh is a periodic update to ensure our courses remain current, high鈥憅uality, and aligned with industry and academic standards. During a refresh, faculty, program staff, and learning designers review and update course content, examples, assessments, and learning activities to reflect new knowledge, industry trend, policies, student feedback and pedagogical approaches. Course Description

This course discusses costs and business practices to establish the cost of a product. The concept of time value of money (TVM) is developed to determine the present and future values of a series of cash flows. TVM principles are then applied to personal finances and retirement planning. This is a practical course that uses spreadsheets to better prepare learners in engineering and science for a career in industry.

Course Description

This course discusses how public projects are evaluated using cost-benefit analysis. Learners discover how interest rates and prices for stocks and bonds are determined. Techniques are presented on how to create departmental budgets for engineering cost centers and pro forma statements for profit centers. Learners then work with corporate financial statements to assess a company鈥檚 financial health, including recent measures of environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG).

Project Management Foundations and Initiation provides students the foundational knowledge of how engineering projects are managed and initiated. Project managers are responsible for project scope, stakeholder management, effective communication, and team leadership. In this course, you will develop introductory skills needed to manage traditional engineering projects, along with tools needed to engage stakeholders and build diverse teams.

This second course in the听Product Development for Technical Managers specialization focuses on the processes used to develop high-technology and engineering-intensive products. The course encourages the student to directly experience product development by conducting many of the steps based on their own product idea. For example, with the opportunity defined from the first course in the specialization, students explore different ideation techniques such as Design Thinking. They define the ideal customer with an approach known as the Customer Persona.Students then learn more about their customers through a variety of research techniques, including how to conduct effective customer interviews. Course Description

This first course in the Applied Sustainability specialization discusses the need to shift from today鈥檚 linear economy to a circular one. The course begins with a discussion of the state of our world, introducing the idea of the 鈥淎nthropocene鈥.听 It explains what we know about global warming and subsequent climate change, and what greenhouse gases are and where they come from. Leading the Circular and Sustainable Business is the third and final course in the specialization, Applied Sustainability for Technical Managers.听

This course focuses on the business case for sustainability.听 It begins by defining a sustainable business, one that is inclusive of all stakeholders and how new organizational structures support the sustainable enterprise, enabling the business to go beyond corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The course highlights sustainable operations and supply chains, recognizing sustainable products need to be manufactured using environmentally and socially responsible practices. Course Description

Circular Product Design Frameworks and Certifications is the third and final course of the Circular Product Development for the Circular Economy specialization.听 The aim of this course is to explore different circular design frameworks such as the Ellen MacArthur Foundation's collaboration with IDEO to create a Circular Product Design Guide, the partnership between industry and research teams that culminated in the CIRCit Guide to Circular Product Design and Development, and Biomimicry 3.8's Guide to best practices. If the first two courses in the specialization describe what circular product and packaging design is and what it can achieve, this course is about the processes and methodologies necessary to make it happen.

The course begins by examining the motivation for circular product design, highlighting what is happening at major corporations such as IKEA, as well as for regulatory mandates, such as the European Union's Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (the ESPR). The course then dives into the Ellen MacArthur Foundation-IDEO's 4-Phase Design Guide based on human-centered design and design thinking. The Circular Product Design approach defined by the CIRCit Project is also examined in detail, as it dovetails nicely into existing stage-gate product development processes. The course then briefly discusses biomimicry as an innovative way to emulate nature's solutions to today's challenges. Increasingly, consumers (and investors!) are interested in more sustainable and circular products, and one way of demonstrating a company's success is with a 3rd party certification. Therefore, the course wraps up with a focus on the Cradle-to-Cradle Products Innovation Institute鈥檚 certification process. Included in this course is a comprehensive set of tools, worksheets, and activities that can be used by any product design team interested in developing circular products that benefit both people and the environment.

  • Document your process. Save screenshots, dialog, prompt, queries or version history to document your process if you used AI. Include documentation in the submission if the assignment format allows. Otherwise, save it in your system in case you are asked by a program or university staff.
